Post Twenty Nine: Take to the sky

 [Tiffany Aching, teenage witch of the Chalk has gotten two things back from the town. One of them is rather obvious.

Her broom. Which is why you can.

A. See a figure in a pointy hat flying high into the sky and around the town. It's been far too long since she's been able to escape like this...which is probably why...

B. Landing rather clumsily in front of you. She straightens her witches hat as she steadies herself.]

Sorry about that. I'm a little out of practise.

C. Tiffany Aching is standing off to the side. Somewhere, a street, her house. She's holding her head and muttering under her breath. You might be able to catch some of what she's saying.]

As for the hat, in my world it's how you recognize a witch.

A long time ago, spellcasters in my world would do similar things, but in recent years have decided against making themselves such targets. Not that I've been one to listen to the rules most spellcasters do.

Pretty much. Not in a long time, but most spellcasters live separated from the rest of society ever since. In guilds in shit like that. I never bought into it though. [AKA "they wouldn't let me into any."]

Someone told me of another world like that.

Apparently it's rare for people magic to get along with people who don't.

Well in my world we basically have two groups of magic users. Witches and wizards. The wizards tend to go to the Unseen University to learn magic. While witches tend to learn in a more apprentice setting in smaller towns or villages.

Interesting. We have guilds. But unless you're rich or have nepotism on your side, forget about getting into one. It's all about goddamn politics. [Someone's obviously bitter about this. He takes a cigarette from a pack in his pocket, and lights one up.]

I think the wizards deal more with politics then we do.

Yes. They're quite more interested in politics. They have a tendency to kill each other to get ahead I believe.

[He pauses a moment, taking a long drag on his cigarette, and shakes his head.] Doesn't matter to me anyway. I learned a hell of a lot without their nonsense anyway.

It does. I think when we understand why they keep bringing us here and then returning us, we'll be a bit closer in solving the mystery of this lace.
