Post Three: Gifts From Home

[Tiffany had been home when she recieved the strange package in the mail. Wondering who was sending her anything here and the sight interest in the post in general (you tended not to get much mail in the Chalk) she opened the package very carefully. This turned out to be a good thing as she would have dropped it if she hadn't done this.]

I take that's quite normal to recieve "things" from home, in the post around here?

[If anyone see's Tiffany, she is now wearing a neclace that looks like This ]

From what I've gathered, that's how objects and powers from our homes are restored to us.

[Gazing down at necklace...]

They certainly have an odd sense of humour.

[identity profile] hurtjustalittle.livejournal.com 2009-11-20 09:21 pm (UTC)(link)
At least you regained something.

When did you receive it?

[identity profile] hurtjustalittle.livejournal.com 2009-11-20 09:29 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, just a necklace? I would have hoped to have my powers back, personally.

[identity profile] the-wee-big-hag.livejournal.com 2009-11-20 09:32 pm (UTC)(link)
I was rather hoping to get something a little more useful as well. The only other thing I've gained back are my second/third thoughts and first sight.

Powers?...are you a witch by any chance?

[identity profile] hurtjustalittle.livejournal.com 2009-11-20 09:43 pm (UTC)(link)
...I don't know what you mean by that.

Don't call me that.

[identity profile] the-wee-big-hag.livejournal.com 2009-11-20 09:45 pm (UTC)(link)
It's hard to explain. It's part of my own powers and helps me think clearly and see things that most people don't notice.

A witch? I'm sorry, is that an insult where you come from?

[identity profile] hurtjustalittle.livejournal.com 2009-11-20 09:50 pm (UTC)(link)
Huh. Strange. It's a shame Master Aro isn't here. He would love all the powerful people here.

Yes. And up until recently being accused of being such a thing would result in being burned alive.

[identity profile] the-wee-big-hag.livejournal.com 2009-11-20 09:53 pm (UTC)(link)
Master Aro?

Then I appologize. In most places where I come from being a witch is a respected profession. However there are still places in the land, where witches are thought to be evil.

[identity profile] hurtjustalittle.livejournal.com 2009-11-20 09:57 pm (UTC)(link)
The greatest man on Earth. My home would be in shambles if not for his valiant efforts!

Thou shall not suffer a witch to live. That was the philosophy in my world.

[identity profile] the-wee-big-hag.livejournal.com 2009-11-20 10:00 pm (UTC)(link)
....[There's a sigh]

Where I lived they had smiliar fears of witches. Even going so far as to cast an old lady out of her home because of a missing child.

Fortunatley this has changed now that I am the witch of the hills.

[identity profile] hurtjustalittle.livejournal.com 2009-11-20 10:08 pm (UTC)(link)
Ah. That's... that's good to know. I am not a witch, but once I was accused of being one.

[identity profile] the-wee-big-hag.livejournal.com 2009-11-21 12:57 am (UTC)(link)
Yes, people are starting to accept the fact that witches are not just wicked old ladies from fairy tales.

[You were accused of being one...] You managed to escape I hope.

[identity profile] hurtjustalittle.livejournal.com 2009-11-21 07:36 am (UTC)(link)
I was saved. The burns healed. It's in the past and I try not to...

[identity profile] the-wee-big-hag.livejournal.com 2009-11-22 01:54 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm sorry for bringing bad memories up.

[identity profile] bustydefense.livejournal.com 2009-11-20 08:59 pm (UTC)(link)
Somewhat, at least.

[identity profile] bustydefense.livejournal.com 2009-11-21 02:23 am (UTC)(link)
Normal as in we expect it to happen sometimes, but the deliveries themselves come whenever the mayor feels like it.

[identity profile] bustydefense.livejournal.com 2009-11-22 11:47 pm (UTC)(link)
As is most of the running of this town.

[identity profile] eldest-hatter.livejournal.com 2009-11-20 09:12 pm (UTC)(link)
[And here's Sophie, carrying a load of clean laundry which needs to be folded.]

Oh, hello Tiffany. Were you wearing that necklace before?

[identity profile] the-wee-big-hag.livejournal.com 2009-11-20 09:19 pm (UTC)(link)
[Looks up]

No, I...got it in the mail. [She fiddles with it slightly]

I had it at home.

[identity profile] eldest-hatter.livejournal.com 2009-11-20 11:02 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh yes. Mr. Snicket told me people had been receiving packages. It doesn't seem like I received anything, but I'm certainly glad you did.

Is it something very important to you?

[identity profile] the-wee-big-hag.livejournal.com 2009-11-21 01:03 am (UTC)(link)
It was a gift from, Roland...a

[She trails of...trying to think of what exactly..]

...friend from back home. He was son of the Baron in the Chalk, where I lived.

[identity profile] eldest-hatter.livejournal.com 2009-11-21 01:37 am (UTC)(link)
I see. [She smiles as she sits down and starts folding clothes.] You must be very happy to have it back.

[identity profile] the-wee-big-hag.livejournal.com 2009-11-21 02:02 am (UTC)(link)
It is nice to have something to remind me of hi- home.
[No she did not slip up, not at all]

[identity profile] eldest-hatter.livejournal.com 2009-11-21 02:06 am (UTC)(link)
[See that smirk? She totally didn't notice the slip. Not at all~]

Yes. It's always good to have reminders. At least until we can find the way home.

[identity profile] the-wee-big-hag.livejournal.com 2009-11-21 02:08 am (UTC)(link)
[Nodd...and yes, she sees that smirk]

I've been meaning to ask you something.

What do witches do in your world?

[identity profile] eldest-hatter.livejournal.com 2009-11-21 02:10 am (UTC)(link)
All sorts of things really. Some have simple shops where they help people with spells and magical items. Others help advise Kings and other nobility.

[identity profile] eldest-hatter.livejournal.com 2009-11-22 07:54 pm (UTC)(link)
Not the magic itself, but what they can do with their magic. It's a trade, like selling hats or being a blacksmith.

[identity profile] the-wee-big-hag.livejournal.com 2009-11-22 08:00 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh. Where I come from witches aren't allowed to ask for payment for thier help.

[identity profile] eldest-hatter.livejournal.com 2009-11-22 08:04 pm (UTC)(link)
I see. Well I suppose the use of magic just differs from world to world.

[identity profile] the-wee-big-hag.livejournal.com 2009-11-22 08:05 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes. Besides we don't use magic unless it's neccisary. Most problems can be solved with headology or common sense. Or hard work.

[identity profile] eldest-hatter.livejournal.com 2009-11-22 10:33 pm (UTC)(link)
That depends on the witch or wizard in my world. There are many, including myself, who try to find other options before relying on magic, while others use magic all the time.

[identity profile] the-wee-big-hag.livejournal.com 2009-11-22 10:43 pm (UTC)(link)
[She nodds] Common sense solves more problems then people think it will.

Oh and Wizards use different magic as well from witches where I come from. I haven't met any but I know they all go to school to learn it.

[identity profile] eldest-hatter.livejournal.com 2009-11-23 01:27 am (UTC)(link)
It certainly does.

How interesting...Both witches and wizards can have formal training in Ingary.

[identity profile] the-wee-big-hag.livejournal.com 2009-11-23 03:46 pm (UTC)(link)
Witches tend to have apprenticeships with older witches insted of going to school.

I don't really know much about wizards.

[identity profile] eldest-hatter.livejournal.com 2009-11-23 04:25 pm (UTC)(link)
It's a bit of a mix in my world. My sister Lettie was training under Mrs. Fairfax, and I myself had started learning from my husband.
