witchofthechalk: (Flying with Feegles)

Post Thirty Three: Sorting Things Out

[Tiffany is tired. No, worse. She's not tired, at least not properly tired. Properly tired was spending two days on your feet without sleep. It was helping a new mother give birth to twins. It was when you spent your time on something that made the sheer exhaustion feel like an accomplishment rather then a weakness. No she wasn't tired. Not really.

But she was worried. And she dreams of eyeless things, angry music and gingerbread houses in the woods. And she decides since she's a witch she's going to have to do something about all this. Or a few things.

A. Housemates: Tiffany is sitting on the living room floor while she goes through the small wooden box of her small things from home.

B. Tiffany is walking down the street with a broomstick floating in the air behind her. She's holding onto it by a string as she walks along.

C. Susan, people at Susan's house. There is a witch knocking on the door.

D. There is a girl and a broom on a hill. While that might be a little odd, the strange thing is that she's flying. Rather low to the ground but still flying. It helps her think.

ooc: Tiffany is now able to hear spill words.]

[She knows the feeling.]

It's hard when you miss people though.

It's odd, but there's a lot of people who are blind to magic, or their brains won't accept it... their subconscious edits their memories of the event to fit their view of the world.

[ Ilsa shrugs again. ] Most of the time, it's actually a blessing. Luck, good or bad, gets blamed and they go on with their lives intact.

It's when one of the horrors is in their face that they remember, if they survive.

[identity profile] the-wee-big-hag.livejournal.com 2011-08-03 11:39 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes. That would make it hard to explain then.
ooeeooahah: (Hm)

Most of what my group does is try to keep the peace, maintain the balance, and protect the ones that need it.

What responsibilities do you have in your circuit?

[identity profile] deaths-heritor.livejournal.com 2011-08-04 03:05 am (UTC)(link)
Apparently, it's a defense association. You're supposed to be learning some punching and kicking, I think.

[Susan sounds as uncertain of punching and kicking as she does of fireballs, however.]

[identity profile] tapshoetomove.livejournal.com 2011-08-04 08:05 am (UTC)(link)
Hm, well hopefully we'll get to see them again! Preferably not here.

Sometimes I think it makes 'em feel better. Like, they can't get to the real people in charge, right? But they're still mad, so they get mad at everything else.

[identity profile] the-wee-big-hag.livejournal.com 2011-08-06 02:10 am (UTC)(link)
I see.

....Maybe I should bring my frying pan.

[identity profile] deaths-heritor.livejournal.com 2011-08-06 10:06 am (UTC)(link)
Try not to hurt anyone too badly. They're more hefty than you might think.

[identity profile] the-wee-big-hag.livejournal.com 2011-08-07 09:36 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh I know.

[She's used them a few times.]

[identity profile] the-wee-big-hag.livejournal.com 2011-08-07 09:44 pm (UTC)(link)
[There's a pause.]

That...makes a lot of sense actually.

Yes, you're probably right about a few people here.

[identity profile] deaths-heritor.livejournal.com 2011-08-08 01:21 am (UTC)(link)
As it is, I'm not terribly sure the lot of you will accomplish anything in particular, but there's no harm to it.

[identity profile] the-wee-big-hag.livejournal.com 2011-08-08 02:26 am (UTC)(link)
Honestly, I very much doubt we will. But I make a point of joining all the groups I can so I can at least keep a list of the failed idea's.

I don't want more people starting another riot thinking it would do something.

[identity profile] the-wee-big-hag.livejournal.com 2011-08-08 02:29 am (UTC)(link)
Mine was a large area of land called the Chalk. I looked after the sick, checked up on the elderly, helped with the births, took care of the deaths, solved disputes between people, made sure those with no voices were heard, kept things balanced, made sure things didn't get out of control and dealt with anything out of the ordinary that might show up in a land that seems to run on magic.
ooeeooahah: (Hm)

[personal profile] ooeeooahah 2011-08-08 02:41 am (UTC)(link)
[ Ilsa nods. ] Large circuit, even with you being the full time guardian, that's a lot of responsibility. That's part of what hinders us, I think. Besides the secrecy, most of the guardians tend to have another full-time job besides the magic responsibilities.

[ She shrugs, ] It's a volunteer job, so we have to have a day job.

[identity profile] the-wee-big-hag.livejournal.com 2011-08-08 02:50 am (UTC)(link)
Well yes, witches can't charge people.

Though I tend to get a lot of old clothing and extra food that people just happen to have on hand when I'm passing by.

[identity profile] deaths-heritor.livejournal.com 2011-08-08 05:13 am (UTC)(link)
Riots are always good fun until you have to clean up. Have we had one before?
ooeeooahah: (worried)

[personal profile] ooeeooahah 2011-08-08 08:14 pm (UTC)(link)
So, that is one of the variables. I was beginning to think that was an oddity limited to my world.

That was a little like how I got my degree - I signed on for a contract at the clinic that was under-served, and the city paid for my medical school. It just so happened that the city needed another guardian at the same time.

[ I wonder if the city decided it needed another guardian, or if it knew Grandma Brown was going to have that cardiovascular incident... ]

[identity profile] the-wee-big-hag.livejournal.com 2011-08-08 11:43 pm (UTC)(link)
Not in all of them, but certainly in mine.

[She nods.]

The land picks its own witch sometimes.
ooeeooahah: (Hm)

[personal profile] ooeeooahah 2011-08-09 12:53 am (UTC)(link)
I'd like to invite you over for tea, sometime when you're free.

[ She gives a small greeting bow. ]

I'm Ilsa Higa, at 1490 Kramden Road.

[identity profile] the-wee-big-hag.livejournal.com 2011-08-10 11:11 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes. It was a while ago and we were doing it to test the limits of control they had when it came to droning. We wanted to see if the entire town started to act out of line, if they'd be able to stop us.

In short, yes, but it took more effort.

And then they decided to punish us. And started murdering people. The people didn't appear the next day and they started to tell us that some of us had been replaced by monsters who were killing us. They gave us names of course. A new list to go with the killings every day.

And as more and more people were killed overnight, people started to turn on each other. Especially if your name was on the lists more then once.

[identity profile] the-wee-big-hag.livejournal.com 2011-08-10 11:13 pm (UTC)(link)
[A bow back in return.]

Thank you. I'd like that.

My name's Tiffany Aching.

[identity profile] the-wee-big-hag.livejournal.com 2011-08-10 11:19 pm (UTC)(link)
That would be nice.

What's your world like?
ooeeooahah: (smile)

[personal profile] ooeeooahah 2011-08-10 11:21 pm (UTC)(link)
I should let you get to flying, but please stop by sometime.

[identity profile] the-wee-big-hag.livejournal.com 2011-08-10 11:29 pm (UTC)(link)
I'll do that.

[And with another nod she'll continue her walk towards the hill. Broom flying in the air behind her.]
