witchofthechalk: (Flying with Feegles)

Post Thirty Three: Sorting Things Out

[Tiffany is tired. No, worse. She's not tired, at least not properly tired. Properly tired was spending two days on your feet without sleep. It was helping a new mother give birth to twins. It was when you spent your time on something that made the sheer exhaustion feel like an accomplishment rather then a weakness. No she wasn't tired. Not really.

But she was worried. And she dreams of eyeless things, angry music and gingerbread houses in the woods. And she decides since she's a witch she's going to have to do something about all this. Or a few things.

A. Housemates: Tiffany is sitting on the living room floor while she goes through the small wooden box of her small things from home.

B. Tiffany is walking down the street with a broomstick floating in the air behind her. She's holding onto it by a string as she walks along.

C. Susan, people at Susan's house. There is a witch knocking on the door.

D. There is a girl and a broom on a hill. While that might be a little odd, the strange thing is that she's flying. Rather low to the ground but still flying. It helps her think.

ooc: Tiffany is now able to hear spill words.]

Something like that.

We're from the same world.

[identity profile] the-wee-big-hag.livejournal.com 2011-07-25 11:10 pm (UTC)(link)
What do you mean?

[identity profile] the-wee-big-hag.livejournal.com 2011-07-25 11:31 pm (UTC)(link)
I'll wait.

[identity profile] the-wee-big-hag.livejournal.com 2011-07-25 11:34 pm (UTC)(link)
Not really. Just the normal things. Sophie cleans, England mopes, Tarvos sleeps a lot. And I think Horace is either trying to fight all the scones or form an army of them.

[identity profile] tapshoetomove.livejournal.com 2011-07-26 01:40 am (UTC)(link)
Oh! That's pretty lucky, finding someone from your world here.

Well, I'm not sure how it works everywhere, but at home, magic has to follow rules, like the laws of physics. Any action needs a certain amount of energy to make it effective, whether it's physical or magic. You just have to know which tool is best for the job.

[identity profile] deaths-heritor.livejournal.com 2011-07-26 03:11 am (UTC)(link)
I'll send Slugger over to eat as fast you can build.

Perhaps consider it this way.

In that your concern has largely to do with the conception of witches in the minds of others, you can rely on the fact that we're all thoroughly acquainted with the concept of alternate realities by now. As I understand, the witches that most people seem to be familiar with are the 'larger on the inside than the outside' type. It'll be up to you to show what witchery really means on the Disc.

Not a better witchcraft, mind. Just a different one.

[identity profile] the-wee-big-hag.livejournal.com 2011-07-26 02:29 pm (UTC)(link)
I see.

But why does this mean you have to hide from people?

[identity profile] the-wee-big-hag.livejournal.com 2011-07-26 02:31 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes, it happens every once and a while. Of course that just makes it worse when something bad happens to them, or they get droned for good. But that's really balanced out by having them here.

[Unless they are insane. Like that assassin]

[identity profile] the-wee-big-hag.livejournal.com 2011-07-26 02:56 pm (UTC)(link)
....England.

Yes. Somewhat. I'm trying not to be. I just think they're making all witches look bad by running around waving wands in the air.

Which isn't really true because they're not witches from the Discworld so that shouldn't affect me.

[identity profile] the-wee-big-hag.livejournal.com 2011-07-26 03:08 pm (UTC)(link)
Considering my baking skills he might have some trouble with that.

[She listens to what Susan is saying though.]

That's the part I need to remember. The different worlds have different witches bit.

History - witches have been hunted a couple of times in my world, and if it weren't a really widespread thing, we might have gone extinct. Then the pendulum swings back, and we're revered instead of reviled... and it seems there's people who don't listen to explanations, and just want you to fix everything.

It's a lot easier to protect people when they aren't underfoot.

[identity profile] wasthemaster.livejournal.com 2011-07-27 08:37 am (UTC)(link)
You're not going to be any more specific, are you?

I really wish everyone would stop talking about the town as though it were a sentient being.

[identity profile] the-wee-big-hag.livejournal.com 2011-07-27 11:36 am (UTC)(link)
I would if you asked more specific questions.

Why?

[identity profile] tapshoetomove.livejournal.com 2011-07-27 05:26 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh...right, I wouldn't wish anyone to be stuck in a place like this, especially since it's so dangerous.

[Except that Luke really misses the Professor right now.]

[identity profile] deaths-heritor.livejournal.com 2011-07-28 09:12 am (UTC)(link)
Good.

[Susan finishes the last of her tea.]

Now, then. Use that headology of yours and see if you can't convince people that fireballs and expanding rooms don't solve nearly as many problems as a good dose of less than common sense.

[identity profile] strike-you-out.livejournal.com 2011-07-29 03:02 am (UTC)(link)
[In that case, he'll push the door open a bit wider and retreat into the house.]

Is it important?

[identity profile] the-wee-big-hag.livejournal.com 2011-07-30 10:31 pm (UTC)(link)
I see.

Well, we manage well enough in my world and people know what we are.

[personal profile] ooeeooahah 2011-07-30 11:07 pm (UTC)(link)
[ Ilsa sighs. ]

I hate to say it, but there are a huge number of idiots in my world. Luckily, I'm a psychiatrist, and qualified to make that diagnosis. Though honestly, most of the people in my world just can't see most of it.

[identity profile] wasthemaster.livejournal.com 2011-08-02 06:30 am (UTC)(link)
Tell me more about it then.

Because...it's not sentient. It's a town.

[identity profile] the-wee-big-hag.livejournal.com 2011-08-02 04:09 pm (UTC)(link)
[This boy doesn't understand the word specific does he.]

It's a flat circular world that sits on the backs of four elephants that are standing on the shell of a giant turtle as he flies through space.

[Straight face, ...because that's all totally true.]

The town, the people who are running this place, either or. The town's just shorter to say.

[identity profile] wasthemaster.livejournal.com 2011-08-03 04:26 am (UTC)(link)
[He's not interested enough to be specific quite yet.]

...you must be joking. You must be joking. How can anyone actually survive in space?

Either way, that's giving it way too much power. I'd rather not.

[identity profile] the-wee-big-hag.livejournal.com 2011-08-03 04:22 pm (UTC)(link)
The same way this planet survives in space?

[identity profile] the-wee-big-hag.livejournal.com 2011-08-03 11:15 pm (UTC)(link)
See?

[Rather interesting.]

[identity profile] the-wee-big-hag.livejournal.com 2011-08-03 11:18 pm (UTC)(link)
I hope they don't plan to rely too heavily on that magic of theirs though. If the town takes it away it'll leave all their plans with nothing to stand on.
