Post Thirty Three: Sorting Things Out

[Tiffany is tired. No, worse. She's not tired, at least not properly tired. Properly tired was spending two days on your feet without sleep. It was helping a new mother give birth to twins. It was when you spent your time on something that made the sheer exhaustion feel like an accomplishment rather then a weakness. No she wasn't tired. Not really.

But she was worried. And she dreams of eyeless things, angry music and gingerbread houses in the woods. And she decides since she's a witch she's going to have to do something about all this. Or a few things.

A. Housemates: Tiffany is sitting on the living room floor while she goes through the small wooden box of her small things from home.

B. Tiffany is walking down the street with a broomstick floating in the air behind her. She's holding onto it by a string as she walks along.

C. Susan, people at Susan's house. There is a witch knocking on the door.

D. There is a girl and a broom on a hill. While that might be a little odd, the strange thing is that she's flying. Rather low to the ground but still flying. It helps her think.

ooc: Tiffany is now able to hear spill words.]

[Pardon that mildly surprised look. He's legitimately surprised to find that there are actually witches he's bee unaware of here.]

A witch, are you? [He raises an eyebrow. She...looks the part. And that broom can't possibly be responding to her otherwise.] What school did you attend, then?

[identity profile] the-wee-big-hag.livejournal.com 2011-07-24 05:35 am (UTC)(link)
School?

I said I was a witch, not a wizard.

I was apprenticed to various witches in the Ramtop mountains.

And as for schools. Wizards tend to only go to one. The Unseen University in Ankh-Morpork.

I know! She's putting Tank to work too, I think it's really working out pretty well, actually.

[The door opens after a half-second.]

Tiffany.

[It takes Susan only a moment to notice that Tiffany isn't looking too spry.]

Come inside. I've got a pot of tea brewing.

[identity profile] wasthemaster.livejournal.com 2011-07-24 06:34 am (UTC)(link)
[And that look turns into something more skeptical.]

Must be a lesser school. I've never heard of it. Where I'm from, witches and wizards have to attend schools.

Where did you obtain the broom?

[identity profile] the-wee-big-hag.livejournal.com 2011-07-24 10:48 am (UTC)(link)
Well unless you're from the Discworld, I don't think you would have.

And where I'm from, wizards and witches are quite different things. So it would be rather foolish for us to go to the same school.

As for the broom it's mine from home. They send us things every once and a while here.

[identity profile] the-wee-big-hag.livejournal.com 2011-07-24 10:49 am (UTC)(link)
[She nods and comes inside.]

Thank you.

[identity profile] deaths-heritor.livejournal.com 2011-07-24 10:53 am (UTC)(link)
[Figuring that Tiffany would tell her in her own time what was wrong, Susan will let Tiffany in and return to the kitchen. The tea is ready soon enough, and it comes accompanied by some tea biscuits.]

[identity profile] the-wee-big-hag.livejournal.com 2011-07-24 10:56 am (UTC)(link)
That's good to hear.

[identity profile] the-wee-big-hag.livejournal.com 2011-07-24 10:57 am (UTC)(link)
[She'll come in then.]

Thank you.

My name's Tiffany Aching by the way.

[identity profile] the-wee-big-hag.livejournal.com 2011-07-24 11:01 am (UTC)(link)
[Yes. Just sitting with the tea and biscuits for a bit before she speaks up.]

Have you met any of the people here who call themselves witches?

[She knows she has, she just needed somewhere to start.]

[identity profile] deaths-heritor.livejournal.com 2011-07-24 11:37 am (UTC)(link)
I'm assuming you mean aside from Mrs. Ogg.

[Susan will sip from the cup leisurely.]

There's been a few. The obnoxious little thousand year old girls, the ones with the wands and the mind-numbingly inaccurate Latatian, the woman who likes sweeping so much...

[She suspects she knows what the trouble is, given that she was at the meeting, but there's no hurry.]

[identity profile] the-wee-big-hag.livejournal.com 2011-07-24 12:40 pm (UTC)(link)
[She nods. And tries to resist a smile at the descriptions. Yes, it's probably quite clear what her trouble is.]

Yes. Them.

I'm trying to remember that they come from different worlds but every time they start waving sticks around and talking about all the things they waste their magic on, I just stop taking them seriously.

[identity profile] deaths-heritor.livejournal.com 2011-07-24 01:19 pm (UTC)(link)
[Susan will take another biscuit before she replies.]

I believe it would help if you didn't think of them as witches. The ones you're concerned about are, in all bluntness, nothing more than gender-neutral wizards. 'Witch' is simply the convenient title.

[identity profile] the-wee-big-hag.livejournal.com 2011-07-24 02:04 pm (UTC)(link)
[She thinks this over as she has a drink of tea.]

I've given up thinking anything about the 1000 year old little girls at this point.

....Yes. I suppose that's true.

[Looking into her tea.]

[identity profile] deaths-heritor.livejournal.com 2011-07-24 02:08 pm (UTC)(link)
Ridcully is really the only sensible one out of the lot, and even he goes about abusing his magic religiously. More than the wand-waving ones here, from what I've seen here.

[Susan will take a bite or two of biscuit before stating the obvious. Sometimes, it needed to be done to spur things on, despite how much she hated it.]

It bothers you quite a bit, doesn't it?

[identity profile] the-wee-big-hag.livejournal.com 2011-07-24 02:19 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes.

[There are ways you did things.]

That isn't real witchcraft. It's what everyone seems to think witchcraft should be. But it's not proper witching....

[There's a small pause as she thinks for a moment.]

...And I'm being incredibly judgemental and vindictive right now because I'm irritated by all of it. And because if you tried any of this stick waving at home everyone would be waiting for you to start cackling next.

[identity profile] deaths-heritor.livejournal.com 2011-07-24 02:26 pm (UTC)(link)
A good round of cackling never hurt anyone.

[Susan replies mildly. She's in a rare position of giving advice on matters she knows very little about, so she's not going to press the sarcasm here. Nor is she going to pretend for much longer that she's any sort of expert.]

I'll confess I only know the customs of witches inasmuch as you've told me... but your irritation is well-deserved. What the witches of our world have worked against for years... Well, simply by virtue of having the same title, these witches smash it to little bits, stomp all over it, and then cast a hex on it while waving their wands about.

It'd be a bit like me meeting a Death actually as grim as the Grim Reaper is thought to be.

[identity profile] the-wee-big-hag.livejournal.com 2011-07-24 04:19 pm (UTC)(link)
I know. But you're the only other person who even knows about the witches of the Discworld at all. Aside from Death of course.

[Speaking of that, she supposes a grim Death would be strangely horrifying for Susan.]

..Yes, it's a lot like that. Witches are supposed to act a certain way because in a sense what one does, affects how people see all of us.

[She sighs and rubs her head.]

And they manage to destroy all of that.

And I can't take them seriously. Magic rooms, magic coins, shooting fireballs? ...that's not being a witch.

But if I keep thinking this way I'm going to start to think I'm better then them and next thing you know I'll be trying to build a gingerbread house in the park or something.

[identity profile] strike-you-out.livejournal.com 2011-07-24 04:25 pm (UTC)(link)
[This time it opens. In the doorway is a boy she will no doubt recognize as he once entered her home to "deliver" a newspaper. After that instance, he's restricted his deliveries to the yard and occasionally to a tree or the rooftop. Slugger recognizes her as Witch Girl with Poker.]

Hi.

[identity profile] the-wee-big-hag.livejournal.com 2011-07-24 04:36 pm (UTC)(link)
[Oh yes she remembers him.]

Hello. Is Susan here?

[identity profile] the-wee-big-hag.livejournal.com 2011-07-24 05:16 pm (UTC)(link)
That's a good thing to be here.

[identity profile] wasthemaster.livejournal.com 2011-07-24 05:19 pm (UTC)(link)
[Ah...okay, that explained some things.]

And what exactly is the Discworld then?

So I've heard. [:| He's kind of envious, really.] I've yet to receive anything of mine, but I'm assuming it's because...actually, I'm not sure why yet. I deserve my things just as much as the next person.

[identity profile] the-wee-big-hag.livejournal.com 2011-07-24 05:24 pm (UTC)(link)
The Discworld is the world I'm from.

The town doesn't give things out based on what people deserve so much as whenever it feels like it.
micronation: (confused)

Yeah, but Sealand still has to get stronger.

[Looking back at the broom.]

Does it just do that all the time or can you make it sit on the ground too?
